The gap

The system knows more than the spreadsheet

In many businesses, SAP records the transactions while planning happens somewhere else. Forecasts live in spreadsheets, MRP output gets overridden by hand, and the warehouse runs on workarounds.

SAP Cloud ERP has the tools to bring that back into one place. Many of our consultants come from business, including former plant managers, production planners and supply chain leads. They know which functionality changes how your teams work, so they set it up and help it stick.

Where we help

Supply chain capability we bring to life

01

Demand and supply planning

Forecasting, MRP and planning that your planners trust, so the system's proposals get used rather than overridden.

02

Procurement and sourcing

Purchasing, supplier management and spend control that cut cost and keep buyers compliant.

03

Inventory management

Stock levels, safety stock and replenishment set up to free working capital without risking service.

04

Warehouse management

Receiving, putaway, picking and shipping processes that match how your warehouse really works.

05

Manufacturing

Production planning, scheduling and shop-floor execution, from make-to-stock to make-to-order.

06

Quality management

Inspections, quality notifications and traceability built into goods movements, not handled on paper.

07

Order to delivery

Availability checks, order management and delivery processing that give customers a date you can keep.

08

Asset maintenance

Planned and reactive maintenance that keeps equipment running and costs visible.

Typical supply chain design challenges

Supply chain problems we help customers solve

Every operation is different, but some design problems come up again and again. Here are four typical examples of the kinds of problems we help customers resolve in SAP Cloud ERP, and how we approach them.

Poor demand and supply planning

The problemSpreadsheet forecasts and overnight batch runs, with sales, operations and finance planning from different numbers.

How we solve itWe move planning out of spreadsheets and overnight batch jobs into MRP Live, demand-driven replenishment and SAP IBP, so sales, operations and finance share one plan.

Path to autonomyA single plan held in SAP, not in spreadsheets, is what planning agents need to act on.

Excess inventory, limited visibility

The problemCash tied up in safety and obsolete stock, with no accurate real-time view across sites and third parties.

How we solve itReal-time stock and valuation in the Universal Journal, inventory optimisation in SAP IBP and accurate warehouses with EWM free up working capital.

Path to autonomyAccurate, real-time stock data lets agents spot and act on shortages and excess early.

Unreliable order promising

The problemDelivery dates ignore real supply, capacity and allocation, and backorders and expediting are handled manually.

How we solve itAdvanced ATP with product allocation and backorder processing gives customers delivery dates the business can keep.

Path to autonomyReliable availability and allocation rules let agents commit and reschedule orders with confidence.

Fragmented procurement

The problemMaverick spend, manual purchase orders and match exceptions, with little view of supplier performance or risk.

How we solve itGuided buying, central procurement, contract management and SAP Ariba cut maverick spend and improve supplier visibility.

Path to autonomyStandard, catalogue-led buying is ready for procurement assistants to run.

What these have in common

The common foundation

Governed material, supplier and customer master data, built on a clean core.

Clean master data and a fit-to-standard, clean-core design decide whether the benefits land. Supply chain design also flows straight into finance through inventory valuation, accruals and margin, so we design the two together.

The SAP Autonomous Enterprise

Getting your supply chain ready for the Autonomous Enterprise

In SAP's Autonomous Enterprise, Joule Assistants for supply chain and procurement coordinate AI agents to run processes from start to finish. Your planners, buyers and operations teams move from chasing transactions to managing exceptions.

SAP's Autonomous Asset Management scenario shows what that means. Agents analyse data from thousands of past incidents, identify the likely root cause and generate pre-filled work orders with the right tools and proven fixes.

01

Agents do the routine work

Routine planning, purchasing and follow-up tasks run automatically, guided by the rules you set.

02

People manage exceptions

Your teams focus on the shortages, disruptions and supplier issues that need judgement.

03

Every action is controlled

Clear limits on what agents can reorder, reschedule or approve, with a full audit trail.

The SAP Autonomous Enterprise

What your supply chain needs in place

✓Accurate master data. Materials, bills of materials, routings, lead times and supplier data that agents can trust.

✓Planning in the system. Planning parameters set and maintained in SAP, not overridden in spreadsheets.

✓Standard processes. Plan, buy, make and ship processes close to SAP standard, with extensions on BTP.

✓Clear exception rules. Agreed limits for what agents can reorder, reschedule or approve without a person.

How we get you there

STEP 1

Assess your readiness

Ignite reviews automation and AI as one of its technology domains, maps where agents could add most value, and gives you an AI and automation roadmap.

STEP 2

Fix the foundations

The capability and design work on this page, from master data to standard processes, is exactly what agents need to work reliably.

STEP 3

Adopt assistants in stages

SAP says GROW customers get the full Joule Assistants portfolio at onboarding, and RISE customers get three assistants activated in their first year. We help you choose, govern and measure them.

Autonomous supply chain in practice

What an autonomous supply chain looks like, layer by layer

SAP launched Autonomous Supply Chain Management at Sapphire in May 2026. It covers planning, manufacturing, logistics, engineering and asset management. SAP's model is simple: people set goals and priorities, assistants coordinate across domains, and agents do the work. Here are supply chain examples for each layer.

Joule, the copilotLayer 01

Everyday questions and simple tasks

These are typical requests a supply chain user might type into Joule. They're illustrative, not quoted from SAP.

"Which production orders for plant 1000 are delayed this week?"

"Show stock levels and open purchase orders for material ABC-123."

"Explain why the supply plan for this product changed since last week."

"Open the app to create a maintenance notification."

Joule can already help demand and supply planners interpret supply planning results in SAP IBP by analysing demand, inventory and supply plans. You still decide and act yourself.

Joule AgentsLayer 02

Do the work themselves

SAP says it offers more than 60 supply chain agents. They detect events, assess the impact and take guided action within set business rules. Examples include:

MANUFACTURING AND PLANNING

Production Planning and Operations Agent

Checks material, capacity and scheduling before releasing production orders, recommends workarounds and releases orders automatically. If materials are short, it suggests alternatives or rescheduling, so only releasable orders go ahead.

MANUFACTURING AND PLANNING

Shop Floor Supervisor Agent

Handles shop floor disruptions such as machine failures and reschedules work to keep production running.

MANUFACTURING AND PLANNING

Production Excellence and Production Master Data Readiness Agents

Monitor production, quality and machine signals to catch issues early, and keep routings and work instructions in line with enterprise plans.

ENGINEERING

Change Record Management Agent

Analyses problem reports, change requests and change notices, recommends next steps and starts the change process, improving governance and traceability.

ASSET AND SERVICE

Maintenance Planner Agent

Analyses real-time data, recommends schedule updates and streamlines maintenance planning.

ASSET AND SERVICE

Asset Performance Alert Processing and Technician Briefing Agents

Assess asset condition, prioritise work and improve first-time fix rates.

ASSET AND SERVICE

Field Service Dispatcher Agent

Schedules and optimises service orders automatically.

BUSINESS NETWORK

Supplier Onboarding Agent

Part of SAP Business Network.

Joule AssistantsLayer 03

Role-based coordinators

SAP announced six supply chain assistants:

Assistant What it does
Planning Assistant Helps planners stay ahead of exceptions and constraints without manually piecing together signals across the network.
Manufacturing Assistant Links shop floor signals with wider operational context so teams act on disruptions faster.
Logistics Assistant Keeps warehouse and transport work moving as conditions change, coordinating agents instead of waiting for manual handoffs.
Asset and Service Assistant Turns asset signals and anomalies into action rather than items sitting in a queue.
Product Design Assistant Keeps engineering and manufacturing aligned and flags the downstream effects of design changes before they cause rework.
Business Network Assistant Extends coordination to suppliers, logistics providers and service partners.
