What it is

All of S/4HANA, delivered your way

SAP Cloud ERP Private gives you the complete functional scope of SAP S/4HANA, including industry solutions, in a single-tenant environment that SAP runs for you.

You keep company-specific configuration and can extend the system further than Public Cloud allows. You also decide when to take upgrades, so you can plan change around your business calendar.

It is the natural home for organisations already running SAP ECC, and for businesses whose processes give them their competitive edge.

Is it right for you?

Private Cloud works best when you

✓Run SAP ECC and want a planned move to S/4HANA before mainstream maintenance ends on 31 December 2027

✓Need the full functional scope of S/4HANA, including industry solutions

✓Rely on integrations and extensions that need to carry over, and want to bring them across on a clean core

✓Have complex or industry-specific processes that set you apart

✓Want to decide when upgrades happen and plan change around your business calendar

✓Want SAP to run the infrastructure, with the ability to tailor the system beyond a standardised SaaS model

Moving from ECC

Three ways to get to S/4HANA

If you run SAP ECC today, there is more than one route. Ignite assesses your system, data and processes and recommends the one that fits.

01

New implementation

Start fresh on standard processes and migrate only the data you need. Best when your current system no longer reflects how you work.

02

System conversion

Convert your existing ECC system to S/4HANA, keeping configuration and history. Best when your processes still serve you well.

03

Selective data transition

Keep what works, redesign what doesn't, and choose which data and history to bring across.

The SAP Autonomous Enterprise

Private Cloud, ready for AI agents

The SAP Autonomous Enterprise is SAP's vision of AI agents running business processes end to end, with people steering. Private Cloud gets you there, provided the core stays clean.

Assistants included

SAP says RISE with SAP customers will have three Joule Assistants activated within their first year.

A head start for ECC customers

SAP is giving ECC and on-premise S/4HANA customers who commit to moving most of their landscape to SAP Cloud ERP access to selected AI scenarios now.

Faster migrations

SAP's new agent-led transformation tooling automates system analysis, code remediation, configuration and testing.

For ECC customers, that makes the move to S/4HANA about more than a deadline. It is the step that opens up SAP's AI agents to your business.

What's still needed: the freedom Private Cloud gives you is also its risk. Every modification makes agents less predictable, so we keep your core clean, fix the master data agents depend on, and agree governance for what agents may do without approval. Ignite assesses your custom code and data and maps your route.

The SAP Autonomous Enterprise

What it means on Private Cloud

01

Agents across the business

SAP's Joule Assistants span finance, supply chain, procurement, HR and customer experience, each coordinating specialised agents to run a process end to end.

02

A new way of working

With Joule Work, people describe the outcome they want and Joule brings together the workflows, data and agents to get it done.

03

Agents for your own processes

Joule Studio, on the SAP Business AI Platform, lets you build agents for the processes that make your business different, without touching the core.

Security

Your own environment, secured and run by SAP

With SAP Cloud ERP Private, your system runs in a dedicated, single-tenant environment that SAP secures and operates for you. You keep the control of a private system and get security operations run at SAP scale, without building or staffing them yourself.

Isolated by design

Your system and data sit in their own environment, separate from other customers.

Patched for you

SAP applies security patches to the infrastructure and system as part of its managed service, while you keep control of functional upgrades.

Encrypted data

Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.

Secure sign-in and access

Single sign-on, multi-factor authentication and role-based access, with segregation of duties you can design and audit.

Monitored around the clock

SAP runs security monitoring, backups and disaster recovery for your environment.

Independently audited

SAP's cloud services are audited against recognised standards such as ISO 27001 and SOC reports, with GDPR-compliant data processing.

For regulated industries and government

SAP Sovereign Cloud

Some organisations need more than standard cloud security. SAP Sovereign Cloud goes beyond data location to meet country-specific regulatory standards across four dimensions of sovereignty:

Data sovereignty

Your data is stored and processed in UK data centres, with no unauthorised cross-border transfers.

Operational sovereignty

Only approved, security-cleared personnel handle administration and maintenance.

Technical sovereignty

Control planes are hosted locally, with strong separation enforced through encryption or dedicated infrastructure.

Legal sovereignty

Legal entities are based locally or in approved countries, reducing the risk of foreign influence, ownership and control.

The service supports the UK Data Protection Act 2018 and aligns with the National Cyber Security Centre's security principles. It also offers solutions that meet Cyber Essentials Plus standards.

Invenio has hands-on experience here. We are supporting Capgemini and HMRC on the move of HMRC's Enterprise Tax Management Platform to SAP Sovereign Cloud, a major SAP S/4HANA migration programme. Not every workload needs full sovereignty, so Ignite helps you decide whether standard Private Cloud, a partial sovereign option or SAP Sovereign Cloud is the right fit.

RISE with SAP

The contract and method for Private Cloud

RISE with SAP is SAP's packaged offering for moving existing SAP customers to the cloud, aimed mainly at organisations with large or complex ERP landscapes. It is how you buy SAP Cloud ERP Private, and it brings the software, the cloud infrastructure and SAP's technical operations together under one contract with SAP, so you have one party accountable for running the platform. It also brings SAP's standard methodology for the move. We help you scope it correctly, so you buy what you need and use what you buy.

Private Cloud FAQs

Questions we hear about moving to SAP Cloud ERP Private.

How is Private Cloud different from Public Cloud?
Private Cloud runs in a dedicated, single-tenant environment rather than shared infrastructure. It gives you the full functional scope of S/4HANA, more room to tailor processes, and control over when you take upgrades. Public Cloud is more standardised and always current. See how the two options compare.
When do we need to move off SAP ECC?
SAP's mainstream maintenance for ECC ends on 31 December 2027. A planned move now gives you time to choose the right approach, rather than rushing to meet the deadline.
How long does a move to Private Cloud take?
Private Cloud implementations typically take between eight and eighteen months. A new (greenfield) implementation usually lands at the shorter end, while converting an existing SAP ECC system (brownfield) usually takes twelve months or more. The exact timeline depends on your scope, how much custom code needs to be remediated, how complex your data migration is and how quickly the business can make decisions. Taking a clean-core approach, adopting SAP's best-practice processes wherever possible and limiting custom development to genuine differentiators, keeps projects shorter and future upgrades simpler. Delivery can be faster still when both the SAP partner and the customer embrace AI, using it to speed up fit-to-standard workshops, custom code analysis, data preparation, testing and training rather than relying on manual effort alone. Ignite gives you a realistic, phased timeline before you commit.
Will we be able to use SAP's AI agents?
Yes. SAP says RISE with SAP customers will have three Joule Assistants activated within their first year. Keeping your core clean is what lets agents work reliably, so we design for that from the start.
Can we keep our existing customisations?
Many can carry over, but not all of them should. We review your custom code with you, keep what genuinely sets you apart, rebuild what we can on SAP Business Technology Platform, and retire what you no longer need. A clean core keeps future upgrades simpler and makes SAP's AI agents more reliable.
Which migration approach is right for us?
There are three main routes: a new implementation (greenfield), a system conversion (brownfield), or a selective data transition that keeps what works and redesigns what doesn't. Ignite assesses your system, data and processes and recommends the route that fits your business.
Who looks after the system, SAP or us?
Under RISE with SAP, SAP runs the cloud infrastructure and technical operations. You own your business processes and configuration. Our Application Management Services team supports and improves your applications, and plans upgrades with you on your timeline.
Do we need SAP Sovereign Cloud?
Not every workload needs full sovereignty. Sovereign Cloud is designed for regulated industries and government. Ignite helps you decide whether standard Private Cloud, a partial sovereign option or SAP Sovereign Cloud is the right fit.
